Germander Caucasian (Iranian Germander): Teucrium hircanicum

Caucasian (Iranian) germander is a showy, hardy perennial which spreads its foliage to give a ground covering, weed suppressant clump. It is equally happy in a sunny or partly shaded position as long as the soil is reasonably well-drained, and will even grow in a medium sized container.

From June to September, candle-like spires of flowers give a blaze of pink/purple colour, and are great to attract pollinators. It makes good contrast positioned alongside silvery leaf plants and with white or cream flowers in the border.

As well as summer and autumn colour in the border, this is an ideal choice of plant for an area dedicated to wildlife.

In addition, the flowers have long life in water when cut for floral decorations and dry well for winter colour in dried arrangements.
